Description of State Criminal Record Search Sources

Note: These state criminal record search sources are not conducted through privately owned criminal databases. They are accessed from state agency criminal record databases or through private companies that are contracted by the state agencies to host and provide access to criminal records.

Note: Criminal record search results vary from state to state. There are some state agencies that will only indicate arrests when fingerprints are submitted. There are other agencies that often will not indicate the desposition of the case as the district attorney's office or the court had not submitted the updated case information. In cases such as this, if the state does not offer an alternative, you will be advised of the limitation of the search. The majority of the searches will provide at a minimum, the case number, charge and disposition.

Alabama Courts
The Alabama Administrative Office of the Courts provides statewide court data back to 1994 (earlier records may exist). Records are verified by name and date of birth. Record information includes felony and misdemeanor offenses - identified separately. Offense description, county of conviction, file date, conviction date, case number and disposition are reported. Turnaround time is two to four days.

Alaska Corrections
This report checks for felonies and state level misdemeanors of individuals that have been under the supervision of the AK Department of Corrections.

Arizona Corrections
This report checks for felonies and state level misdemeanors of individuals that have been under the supervision of the Arizona Department of Corrections.

California Convictions
Statewide Criminal Convictions are conducted through a statewide system made available by the state. Records include persons guilty of felonies and state-level misdemeanors that have been incarcerated by the state of California and/or assigned to probation or parole. Expected turnaround is 1-2 business days.

Colorado Courts AOC
The Colorado Administrative Office of the Courts provides statewide court data back to 1995 (earlier records exist from individual counties). Records are verified by name and date of birth. Record information includes felony and misdemeanor offenses with the exception of the Denver General Sessions Court (misdemeanors) which is not included. Offense description, county of conviction, file date, conviction date, criminal statute number, case number, ticket number, fines, sentence length, probation and disposition are reported. This search has a one day turnaround.

Connecticut Repository
This statewide criminal record search is conducted through the state repository. The turnaround time is between fourteen to twenty-one days.

Connecticut Courts
Statewide Felony & Misdemeanor Searches are conducted through a statewide system. Criminal record results contain information submitted to the state by courts from each county. Turnaround time is two to four days.

Delaware AOC
The Delaware Administrative Office of the Courts provides statewide court data back to 1992. Name and exact match with date of birth and/or address verify records. Record information includes felony and misdemeanor offenses not separately identified. Offense description, file date, disposition and disposition date, date of arrest and sentence information are reported. Expected turnaround is 1-2 business days.

District of Columbia AOC
The District of Columbia District Court Administrator provides district wide court data back to 1979. Records are verified by name and date of birth. Record information includes felony and misdemeanor offenses - identified separately. Offense description, county of conviction, file date, conviction date, case number, and disposition are reported. Expected turnaround is 1-2 business days.

Florida Repository
Searches are conducted through the Florida Department Of Law Enforcement's state repository. Turnaround time is between one to two days.

Georgia Repository
Criminal records are accessed through the state agency. A signed release is required. Turnaround time is ten to fourteen days.

Hawaii (CJIS-Hawaii)
The Hawaii Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS-Hawaii) provides statewide information from the police, sheriffs, prosecutors, all levels of courts, intake centers, community correctional facilities, and probation and parole agencies. Records are verified by name and date of birth. Record information includes felony and misdemeanor offenses - identified separately. Offense description, county of conviction, file date, conviction date, criminal statute number, case number, fines, sentence length, probation and disposition are reported. Expected turnaround is 1-2 business days.

Iowa Repository
Criminal records are accessed from the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigations. Turnaround time is two to seven days.

Idaho Repository
Records are accessed from the state criminal repository. A special release form is needed. Turnaround time is fifteen to twenty days.

Illinois Repository
Data is accessed from the state criminal repository. A signed release is required. Turnaround time is fourteen to twenty days.

Illinois Corrections
This search checks for felonies and state level misdemeanors of individuals that have been under the supervision of the IL Department of Corrections.

Indiana State Police
This is a limited history search that contains only felonies and class A misdemenor arrests within the state of Indiana. Completeness of this information is based upon county participation.

Indiana Corrections
This search checks for felonies and state level misdemeanors of individuals that have been under the supervision of the IN Department of Corrections.

Iowa Repository
Criminal record data is accessed from the state repository. Turnaround time is four to seven days.

Kansas Repository
Criminal records are accessed from the state repository. Turnaround time is two to three days.

Kansas Corrections
This report checks for felonies and state level misdemeanors of individuals that have been under the supervision of the KS Department of Corrections.

Kentucky Repository
Criminal records are accessed from the state police. Turnaround time is three to ten days.

Kentucky Corrections
This criminal report checks for felonies and state level misdemeanors of individuals that have been under the supervision of the KY Department of Corrections.

Louisiana Parishes Search includes all of the following parishes:Caddo, Calcasieu, Jefferson, Orleans, Rapides, St. Tammany, Boosier and East Baton Rouge Parishes.Each Parish provides local court records dating back a minimum of seven years. Records are verified by name and date of birth. Record information includes felony and misdemeanor offenses. Offense description, file date, conviction date, disposition date, case number, fines and sentence information are reported. This has a 1-2 business day turnaround.

Maryland AOC
The Maryland Administrative Office of the Courts provides statewide court data back to 1992. Name and exact match with date of birth, and/or address verify records. Record information includes felony and misdemeanor offenses not separately identified. Offense description, court of conviction, file date, conviction date, case number and disposition of criminal records are reported. Turnaround time is two to four days.

Maine State Police
Criminal records are accessed from the Maine State Bureau of Identification. This records search will provide you with conviction and adjudication information for adult and limited information for juvenile crimes committed within the State of Maine. Turnaround time is within three days.

Michigan Repository
Records are accessed from the state repository. Turnaround time is currently three to five weeks, however this time will be reduced significantly in the near future.

Michigan Corrections
This criminal report checks for felonies and state level misdemeanors of individuals that have been under the supervision of the MI Department of Corrections.

Minnesota Repository
Searches are conducted through the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension. Turnaround time is two to four days.

Mississippi Courts
Statewide Felony & Misdemeanor Searches are conducted through the states entire court system. According to statute, criminal dispositions are to be reported by the clerks of court within five days of the end of term of court. Turnaround time is one day.

Missouri Repository
Data is accessed from the Missouri State Highway Patrol. May only be accessed for volunteer, licensing, and employment purposes that cater to individuals at risk. Turnaround time is up to twenty-one days.

Nebraska Repository
Records are obtained through the state police. Turnaround time is ten to sixteen days.

Nebraska Corrections
This search checks for felonies and state level misdemeanors of individuals that have been under the supervision of the NE Department of Corrections.

New Jersey Courts
Searches are accessed from the state county courts. Turnaround time is four to seven days.

New Jersey Corrections
This report checks for felonies and state level misdemeanors of individuals that have been under the supervision of the NJ Department of Corrections.

New Mexico Courts
Misdemeanor and Felony data is provided by the New Mexico District Court, Magistrate Court and Municipal Court as well as Bernalillo County. Results contain information submitted to the State by courts from each county and other criminal justice agencies dating back a minimum of seven years. Offense description, file date, conviction date, disposition date, case number, fines and sentence information are reported. Turnaround time is two to four days.

New York OCA
The New York State Office of Court Administration (OCA) provides a New York Statewide criminal history record search (CHRS). The search criteria is strictly based on exact match of Name and DOB (variations of Name or DOB are not reported.) The search results are public records relating to open/pending and convictions of criminal cases originating from County/Supreme, City, Town and Village courts of all 62 counties. Sealed records are not disclosed. Town & Village criminal disposition data is limited. New York Corrections

North Carolina Courts
This criminal record search checks for statewide Felony & misdemeanor through a statewide system. Criminal record results contain information submitted to the state by courts from each county. Turnaround time is two to four days.

North Corolina Corrections
This criminal record report checks for felonies and state level misdemeanors of individuals that have been under the supervision of the NC Department of Corrections.

North Dakota Repository
Criminal records are accessed from the state repository. Turnaround time is ten to fifteen days.

North Dakota Convictions
Statewide Criminal Convictions Searches are conducted through a statewide system as made available by various state agencies. These records include persons guilty of felonies and some state-level misdemeanors. Results show at minimum: the case #, charge(s), dispositions and sentence term and go back at least seven years. Ohio Corrections

Oklahoma Repository
Criminal records are accessed form the state repository. Turnaround time is one to two days.

Oklahoma Corrections
This criminal record report checks for felonies and state level misdemeanors of individuals that have been under the supervision of the OK Department of Corrections.

Oregon Repository
Criminal records are accessed from the state repository. Turnaround time is five to ten days.

Oregon Courts
Statewide Felony & Misdemeanor Searches are conducted through a statewide system. Criminal record results contain information submitted to the state by courts from each county. Turnaround time is two to four days.

Pennsylvania Repository
Criminal records are accessed from the Pennsylvania State Police Repository. Report includes all convictions, all charges that are less than three years from the date of arrest and the central repositoy has not been notified of the disposition, and charges for which a warrant of arrest has been issued and the central repository has been notified. Turnaround time for no record is two days, and for records, it is two weeks.

Rhode Island Courts
Statewide Felony & Misdemeanor Searches are conducted through a statewide system. Criminal record results contain information submitted to the state by courts from each county. Turnaround time is two to four days.

South Carolina
Criminal records are accessed from the state repository. Turnaround time is three to five days.

South Dakota Convictions
Statewide Criminal Convictions Searches are conducted through a statewide system as made available by various state agencies. These records include persons guilty of felonies and some state-level misdemeanors. Results show at minimum: the case #, charge(s), dispositions and sentence term and go back at least seven years. Tennessee TBI
The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is responsible for maintaining criminal history records for the entire state. You can now determine whether a person has ever been arrested in the state for any reason, provided that those charges haven't been legally expunged or removed from the records. Turnaround is within four days.

Tennessee Corrections
This criminal record report checks for felonies and state level misdemeanors of individuals that have been under the supervision of the TN Department of Corrections.

Texas Repository
Felony and misdemeanor criminal records are accessed from the state repository. Turnaround time is two to four days.

Vermont Repository
Criminal records are accessed from the state repository. Turnaround time is seven to twelve days.

Washington Repository
Criminal records are accessed from the state repository. Turnaround time is two to four days.

Washington Courts
